Good Post (with links) about GoDaddy Practices

So I check Fat Wallet all the time for deals and, like most, I save about 60% on 80% of things I don’t need.  The reason I blogged this post however it because of one of the replies.  I always heard, “Stay away from “GoDaddy” but I never had the details before.  The post quoted below (click the link to see the whole thread) had some good links and is worth a read before signing up with GoDaddy.com.

I would not go to GoDaddy even if they paid me. Why save something like $5 for the first year and get a host with a history of horrible practices (and pay more than other nicer hosts from the 2nd year on)?

So, GoDaddy has a nice history of shutting down entire security websites when someone complains about a page, silencing police watchdog websites, following Irish court (!) wishes and shut down lawyer rating websites. Then, they have this generic “spam clause” and they can hit you with a $199 extortion fee (they call it “administrative fee”) if they “suspect” you for spamming (god forbid them STOPPING spam, they just want a cut), while they give you no way of proving you are not a spammer. They have another nice extortion fee if you are late renewing your domain. Let’s see, what else… Hmm, how about shill bidding against their own customers! Or using sly tricks to lock your domain.

Yeah ok, very few of you will have a user post something on your forum for which someone complains and GoDaddy will then shut down your website. Few of you will have someone accuse you of Spam and GoDaddy asking $199 and no way of proving you are not an elephant. But do you want to support those practices? Oh, you don’t have a problem with that? Ok, sorry, red me, call me a liberal etc…
