Court rules for government in plea deal dispute, can’t trust government, again.

Here is the short story.  Some guy made a deal to get a shorter sentence and plead guilty (happens all the time) but between making the deal and the end of the trial he (allegedly?) committed another crime.  So the government said “screw you” and, rather then hold up their end of the deal, decided to screw him at closing and recommended the longest sentence possible.  The judge agreed and put him away.  The guy, having held up his end of the deal, was pretty annoyed and wanted to rescind his “guilty” plea.  Well, the always fair and reasonable courts said, “No.”

Did this guy deserve his sentence? Maybe. Highly likely even.  That’s not really the point.  The point is the government is saying the government doesn’t need to keep its promises or honor its agreements.  Ask a 5 year old, he’ll tell you that isn’t really fair.  It is just another example of how we can’t put our trust in the government.
